I'm not buying GW2 for a lot of time. Hell, I bought the 1 from less than a year and I never spend money on games (it took someone several years to convince me it was worth those 20euro), usually, and I still feel like I have everything to do in the game. After many many years qith this I'll probably buy the 2, because it's really appealing to me, but...maybe by then I won't even like this kind of things anymore? Who can say?

Considering they've never announced a release date, and never even announced a year, it hasn't been delayed once. The only thing that was delayed was the beta, which ANet should have never even talked about in the first place.

We are slowly seeing info, including ingame images and vids, come out. Unless something happens, GW2 will get released. Whether we like it or not is another issue.

It has taken 3 years for them to release less than 5 minutes of in game footage. Doesn't look to promising to me.

Yes, because Anet spent 3 years working on 5 minutes of gameplay footage. That's all there is. Now they are going to spent another 3 years for another 5 minutes of gameplay footage.

Sorry for the flame, but that's just being ignorant.

Diablo 3 still has about... ten times more gameplay and screenshots than they have released.

Just as I do with any other MMOG I'll at least try it. Try it before you buy it, and give it a fair chance. It'd be awfully foolish to outright say no to a game before giving it a chance, based on personal feelings towards the developers.

It just gets a little bit frustrating when people rant about Anet and how they don't give any information. Well, it's fine to be frustrated. Just don't pretend they are the first one to deprive their community of information for years.

Dawn of war 2 - website and teaser trailer... 2 years later they release gameplay footage.

Diablo 3 - Introducing the... MONK! Okay guys, see you in six months to reveal the last class.

Doom 4 - *Crickets*

Halo Reach - For years we knew it was a prequel and that was about it.

It's just unreasonable to put a developer down when you have no idea what is really going on.

1. DoW2 wasn't really that far away from DoW.
2. Diablo 3 already has almost all classes revealed, plot revealed, gameplay and a lot of skills showed,
3. People still care about the Doom franchise?
4. Halo... meh.
5. Guild Wars 2 had... concept art, 5 videos, all under 2 minutes, and 1 class revealed...

Also, you are comparing A.Net, who went from "new content every 6 months, twice a year!!!" to "well, we released a half-assed expansion pack, see ya in the sequel" in 5 years, to Blizzard, who still updates Diablo 2 after almost 10 years.

My main point was that it's overly harsh to beat on a company strictly on lack of information. Yeah, it was a pain in the ass waiting for new GW2 info, and even when they gave some it was barely enough to move the slider away from vaporware. That still doesn't make it okay to assume they had no excuses for not releasing information. For all we know GW2 could have looked like GW1 beta. Would you release SS of that? Yikes! I don't htink anyone would. But do you see my point? We don't know WHY they were so stingy with information, so regardless of the situation it's kind of inappropriate to put them down.

And yes, I also think it's unfair that they mentioned that they would release campaigns more frequently than they did, and that they moved to making a sequel very quickly while the main game still had areas to add to. In the end we don't know. We don't know why companies do a lot of things, and unless we know the facts it's wrong to judge, which is entirely my point.

What people tend to forget (if they were even around the game at the time) is that ANet announced GW2 before they had anything to explain why they were stopping the release of new campaigns for GW. I don't know of any other company that announced a new game before they had started on it. That means that the game is only 3 years into development. GW took 5 years to reach release date and it was not exactly polished.

Also, having become so familiar with their fanbase and the current MMO world, ANet knows that a too early beta would doom the game. They have stated that they want the game to be polished before release, which is understandable. Look how many half-baked MMOs have been released and died due to lack of content or broken game mechanics.

on another note Star Wars the Old Republic, which has been in development for less time then GW2, is coming along nicely with tons of in game footage and screenies. It even has a novel coming out too... guess its hard to compare bioware to anet though...

Creature, can you expand on that profound statement? "Ahhhh Its Normandy all over again!!!!" I dont think GW2 will remotely resemble the game we play now.

If i had to venture guess, id say some folks will be turned off by the fact there is NO resemblence to the original title.

Most certainly will be spending a great amount of time in GW2, from what we've seen of it thus far.

I think the game mechanics are excellent, from what's been described thus far, and the visuals are outstanding for a game such as GW2... definitely far more than what I expected.

The (hopefully) large and persistent world, interactive environment and countless combinations between races, classes, weapons and even skill combos with other player's skills... an excellent and very ambitious foundation for GW2 to be based upon, as long as they pull it all off well.

I think it will be probably "do more" for PvE players, but, that includes me and many others, so I've no problem if PvP does not pan-out to be that great, as long as PvE is truly outstanding, which I feel it will be.

Sure. There are actually 2 dev teams at ANET last time I checked which was a while ago admittedly. The first team made Prophecies - and it ruled. From what I gathered during the betas they made a lot of EOTN at the same time but kept the maps in their back pocket instead of releasing it all together. There is some evidence of this from forum posts at the time on guild-hall.net (elite PVP community forum with PVE also).

Anyway EOTN rocked too. Factions was made by the "other" dev team and it was the suckiest thing that ever sucked. Then Nightfall came along, made by the first dev team and saved the day and then they finally let out EOTN which appears on the same map as Prophecies (unsurprisingly). So I fear the "B" team of devs is going to make the bulk of GW2 because it's their turn.

Their thinking seems to be infecting the plans with contempt for the PVE community and idiot-proofing all the fun out of the game by removing freedom to make builds. They only slightly mitigate it by making 2 extra skill slots. It will hurt competitive PVP. Also ANET's thoughts on balance seem to revolve around just scaling everything down on the first order to make imbalances look smaller, for example by making it practically impossible to get 20 attribute points which was easy in beta of Prophecies (when the game was most fun) and with a good build you could really pwn people and the metagame would change often. More freedom generally ends up leading to more fun - except when you have skills creep. It gets a bit much to intimately know the nuances of over 1000 skills.

My biggest hope is they make separate PVP packs from the beginning with UAS (unlock all skills) and no daft concepts like attribute refund points and requiring any PVE play to do PVP. It can work the other way around if they want. This was good in GW1 because we were able to counter PVE haters by holding them to ransom over guild hall purchasing to help get what we wanted. I want to play a fun GW2 and re-form Guild Karma but I won;t be asked to battle the forums and play games with the PR people to campaign for changes like last time. I'm hoping they get it right first time and have effective communication with the player base before making firm decisions.

They don't have a large split in place anymore. There's like 2-5 people on GW1, and hundreds on GW2. There wasn't a split in place for most of proph's development either - all their resources were involved in establishing base systems and making a large game. The split was purely to churn out follow-up campaigns, and it died with said campaigns.

If anything the Factions team probably did most of the EotN work. They were the ones who would have started utopia, and would have been doing conception and early implementation while nightfall was being finished. Although staffing probably changed up when they decided to make EotN an expansion and plan out GW2.

The major things that made factions "suck" were

1) Still focused on pushing PvP that most customers didn't want, instead of delivering a solid PvE campaign.

2) First campaign they made on such a short time-frame. Much experience from that went into polishing NF.

As dead and as crappy as you guys make Guild Wars out to be, the fact still stands that you all somehow still participate on Guild Wars forums, which means you still have a hard-on for the game and will most likely buy GW2 so you can continue to bitch for the next 4-5 years.

Guild Wars is still better than most games out there, sadly.
